Doctoral Program Overview

Degree Requirements
The Management & Organizations graduate degree program is interdisciplinary and draws heavily from the fields of mathematics, economics, and the behavioral sciences. A summary of requirements and expectations appears below.

Requirements:
- 36 units of credit in the major field
- 12 units of credit in the minor field
- 18 units of dissertation credit
- Master's project (years 1 and 2)
- Comprehensive exams (usually after year 2 or 3)
Additionally, students must:
- Meet all requirements in a 10-year period
- Complete at least 6 semesters of full-time graduate study
- Take at least 30 units through of the UA
Program Expectations
The Ph.D. program provides strong theoretical and methodological training. Students are expected to:
- Acquire and demonstrate a working knowledge core literature in organization behavior, organization theory, policy and decision research
- Acquire and demonstrate an intellectual mastery of specialized sub-topics within these areas
- Acquire and demonstrate a working knowledge of current developments in these areas
- Acquire and demonstrate a solid foundation in the creation of theory, research design and methodology
- Exhibit competency and preparedness for the dissertation and, more generally, for conducting original, significant research
- Develop strong teaching skills
