Doctoral Program Funding
Research Assistantships
PhD students typically receive a research assistantship stipend, which starts around $19,000 per year. Students have the option to supplement their stipend by teaching a course or two during summer or winter sessions. In Addition, the college covers tuition and any in-state fees in order to allow students to concentrate on developing the skills they will need to become successful academics.
The few exceptions to this rule involve applicants who are paid by their governments, the military, or an external fellowship agency.
Note: Admission decisions are based on the quality of the applicant, not pre-existing funding sources.
Dissertation Support
Graduate students can apply for up to $1,000 in support for their dissertation projects with Department Head approval.
Additional Support
Doctoral students receive free health insurance and up to $1,000 per year for conference travel.
